Changes in Version 8
User Interface
- Settings no longer pop up over the text content, they are displayed on the side or bottom of the screen, depending device orientation. The text is scaled to fit the available space.
- The Edit Text switch has been moved to the titlebar.
- The controller has been replaced with optional horizontal and vertical controllers on the bottom and right of the text content.
- The Built-in Remote interface has been moved to its own settings category called Controls.
- Markers are now a settings category and can be accessed where the other settings are accessed.
- The title bar is now fixed to the top of the screen. It can not be customized and will show the Edit text switch, the clock feature, the title of the document, active remotes and the settings button.
- Added accessibility features including dynamic font size and voice over.
- Added support for Handoff.
- Added Text Editor feature. This allows the main text to be edited from a separate editor in the Prompter Settings. The text style and size in the editor is independent from the main text, allowing the content to be changed more easily than the main text. Optionally the text can also be formatted from the editor.
Prompter Controls
- There are now many more prompter controls that can be used in the controller bars, the Control feature and remotes. Prompter controls are divided into categories: Scroll Controls, Speed Controls, Marker Controls, File Control, Information, Music Controls, Recording, Style, Prompter, Adjustments, Memory Remote, Speech Controls and Settings.
- Shuffle Control: The Shuffle control now has weight and will slowly decelerate. This weight can be adjusted as needed.
- Rotary Controls: The Rotary control works like a dial or knob. Touching and dragging in a circular gesture around the Rotary can control scroll location or scroll speed. The Rotary gives control over the scrolling or speed with one continuous gesture.
- Continuous Controls: Some controls, such as scroll change, speed change, music forward, rewind and volume controls. Continuous controls will repeat the control as long as the button is depressed.
- A text map feature was added that can be accessed in Prompter settings, or used in the vertical toolbar. The map displays a graphic of the entire text content and can be used to scroll the text.
- A video preview can be added to the Controls feature, or the tool bars.
Markers
- Markers can automatically be created from new paragraphs (one empty lines), text formats, capitalized lines, single and double tags, or numbered lines.
- Tags or text formats can automatically be added to the text when a marker is created.
- Any prompter controls can be used for marker actions, including delays.
- Text Markers can be displayed over the text content, indicating where the marker is in the text. The appearance can be changed as needed.
- Marker prompter controls include, Next Marker, Previous Marker, Add Marker, Display Markers or Go to Marker.
- Key Commands can be added directly to markers, allowing a key sequence on a keyboard to go to the marker location.
- Markers can be assigned colors. The color is used in the list of markers, as well as the Text Markers if enabled.
- When a marker is manually created, not using tags, the character position is used, instead of the scroll position. This allow the marker to better maintain its position if the text format is changed.
Settings
- Global Settings feature has been removed. All settings are stored in a settings file that is not unique to a file. The settings file can be saved separately. Individual settings can be opened from a settings file, or saved in a settings file. This allows specific settings to be shared without sharing all settings.
- Added Reversible Playback, when enabled it is possible to adjust the speed below zero and scroll backwards.
- Added Playback Step which determines how many pixels are advanced for each scroll update cycle. If using a large document size, this provides a way to reach higher speeds if needed.
- Added ability to change the prompter controls used when the text is tapped or double-tapped.
- Added popup menu that can be displayed using a long touch or a pressure touch on supported devices. The menu can be customized to contain any prompter controls. Presets can be created to store any number of menu layouts.
- Added Messages policy setting, which allows messages to be shown small, large, or not at all. If using the prompter from a short distance, the small message may be ideal. If using the prompter from farther away, larger messages may be ideal. If using the prompter with talent, no messages may be ideal. Message are displayed for certain actions, such as remote connections and certain remote messages.
- Added ability to change the default document background color.
- Added introduction feature that explains changes and essential features. Also allows user to select a few options for an easy setup.
- Added Help Popups. When some features are first accessed popup explanations are displayed. The popups can be skipped.
- Added ability to enable and disable some advanced features, providing a simplified alternative.
- Added iCloud support for the settings file, so settings can be used across devices on the same account.
- Added Dark Mode, Light Mode and Automatic appearance options.
- Added ability to change the document size. The size can be set to a fixed size, the size of the fullscreen, or the available space in the prompter area. Any number of document size presets can be created.
Controls
- The Controls feature replaces the previous remote feature found in Settings>Remote>iOS Remote>Remote.
- The Controls can be customized by adding, removing or rearranging controls.
- Any number of Control presets can be created to easily load different layouts.
- Controls layouts can be gesture based, control based, or a combination of both.
- Control layouts are used to create Web Server remotes automatically.
- Control layouts can be adapted for Apple Watch.
- Assign custom colors to Control layouts, or individual controls.
- Display prompter control icon and/or title.
- Gesture remote feature has a sensitivity option.
- Some controls can provide an optional value, such as loading a specific file, scroll position, speed, line number, etc.
- The Controller has a fullscreen feature that will display both the text content and the controller fullscreen, hiding the titlebar.
Prompter Settings
- Scroll speed control was removed from the Prompter settings menu. It is available in toolbars and Controller.
- Details about the document were added to the Prompter settings, including total scroll time for the current speed, document size, length in pixels, scale, number of words, lines, pages and document version.
- Speed presets were added, making it possible to store any number of speeds. Each preset controls the speed range, playback step and speed value.
- Added Medium speed range.
- Add Text-to-Speech feature to speak the text content using any voices available on the device. The pitch rate and delays can be adjusted. Optionally scroll the text while speaking with adjustable speed or loop playback. Add a wildcard to a speech preset to change voices while reading.
- Added Text Recognition feature. Extract text from images to add to the text content. Use images from the camera, photos, files, or the camera feed.
- Added Scroll Smoothing feature to filter the scroll input using a variety of methods. The influence can be adjusted as needed.
- Added ability to loop playback of the script. Control is also available for any remote or controllers.
Guide
- Added guide style that displays a triangular marker on the right side of the text.
- Added guide style that fades out, partially darkening part of the text.
- Added option to hide the guide while editing the text.
- Added Fixed Position option, which will anchor the guide to the center offset position. The guide will not move to the top and bottom of the screen when fixed.
- Added Guide Presets so any number of guide configurations can be stored and easily recalled.
- Added option to hide the quide while editing the text.
- AddedBlend Mode option for the guide. This setting will determine how the color or the guide will interact with the color in the text content.
Timer/Clock
- Changed the Timer feature to a Clock feature. The Timer-Down feature is now the Clock-Timer feature. The Timer-Up feature is now the Clock-Stopwatch feature.
- The Clock feature can be displayed in the titlebar, the settings or a floating, sizable view.
- The Clock feature can be used to display the current time instead of a stopwatch or timer.
- The Clock feature can be controlled from the settings Controller, the floating clock, remotes or with stopping and starting the text scrolling.
- The Stopwatch feature has a split option allowing the time to be divided.
- The Clock, Reset Clock, and Splitprompter controls can be used in any controller or any remote to control the clock feature.
Countdown
- The Page style countdown as been removed.
- The colors used in the countdown can be changed.
- Added a beep option to the countdown. A subtle beep will be played each second of the countdown.
- Added a Hide Time option to remove the countdown from the screen before the countdown is complete.
Overlay Image
- Added Overlay Image option. This allows an image to be displayed over the text content.
- Choose an image from your library, the camera, previously used images, or included images.
- Adjust the opacity, scale, location and tint of the image.
- Optionally show the overlay on the device, external monitor or both.
Files
- Files are no longer stored in a database. Files are extracted and stored in the document folder.
- Added support for PDF files and web URL files.
- Added support for files that can be displayed inside a web view, but not edited, including Pages, Numbers, Excel and KeyNote.
- Display the search feature by pulling down on the list of files
- Moved the Sort, Tag, Duplicate options to a bar on the bottom of the menu instead of a pop-up list. Also available in the context menu. To show these options, press the ••• button.
- Removed the Open DB and Backup DB options. Databases from previous versions can be imported like any other file type and the files will be extracted into the current directory.
- Removed Copy/Paste Attributes and Make Template. Instead use Text Presets.
- Added thumbnails for files.
- Added ability to mark multiple files for deletion, sharing, tagging, duplicating, etc.
- Added Setlists to allow more control over groups of files. Files can be automatically loaded and looped using Setlists.
- Added folder support. Folders can also be assigned to groups.
- Added iCloud support for files so all files will be available across all devices.
- Added feature to optionally export various file formats inside a file package. These files can be accessed by any system that can open the package contents. For example, on macOS it is possible to show the package contents and access a Format folder containing versions of the file in txt, rtf, html or pdf.
- When a tag is added to a file, it will use the same system tags as iOS and macOS. The tags will be visible in other apps or the Finder.
- Added ability to sort files by kind, word count, or size.
Style
- Added Highlight color option to control highlights of text separate from the background color of the document.
- Added ability to insert images in the text.
- Improved Find and Replace text feature. Each find result will be highlighted in yellow, the currently selected find result will be highlighted in red.
- Added ability to assign text presets to found results.
- Added feature to adjust the font size to a specific point value, or a size that will fit a specific number of lines on the screen.
- Added Line Height style option. Some documents may require line height, where some require line spacing.
- Added File Break feature to assist in dividing up a large file into multiple smaller files. Divide files by markers, empty lines or specific text. Add resulting files to a folder, setlist or group. Or break manual at the current scroll location.
Text Presets
- Added Default Text Preset to the Text Presets feature. This is the text format that is applied to new files, or files that do not have any format information, such as text files. This is an alternative to the Settings>Files>•••Make Template option in version 7.
- Added ability to search the text content and create text presets based on existing formats found in the text.
- Text presets can have properties added and removed to only affect certain aspects of the text style.
Remotes
- More prompter features can now be controlled from all remote features.
- Most remotes have presets to allow multiple setups for each remote.
- The list of remotes can be rearranged and remotes can be enabled or disabled.
- Added Motion remote, allowing basic control of prompter features using device orientation and movement.
- Added Apple Pencil remote. Control prompter features using the tapping feature of the pencil.
Blue Tooth Keyboard / Key Commands
- The Blue Tooth Keyboard and Key Commands option were combined into the Keyboard option.
- Previous Blue Tooth Keyboard settings are imported as a preset for the Keyboard remote.
- Added Keyboard Presets to store any number of keyboard configurations.
- Added feature to print keyboard labels for keyboard layouts. Labels can include prompter control name and/or icon.
- Added feature to print keyboard layout as a list that can be used for reference.
- Added feature to create an image of a keyboard with labels superimposed on keys to be used as a reference.
- Added ability to use double-presses for keys to control separate prompter functions than single presses.
- Added option to enable or disable keyboard presets while editing the text content.
Web Server
- Two types of web servers can now be used. The standard Web Server, which hosts web pages to interact with the prompter, and the WebDAV server, which allows access to the documents folder with WebDAV compatible software such as macOS Finder.
- The Web Server now hosts pages to access audio and video recordings.
- The control layouts used for the Controls feature are automatically converted for use in the web server.
- The width of the Web Server remote can be adjusted.
- The camera feed for the video recording feature can be displayed in the Web Server remote.
- The Web Server feature can now only be accessed from the Remotes list. It has been removed as a sharing source/destination.
- The web server feature can have a username and password assigned.
- Adjust the order and availability of the web pages for the webserver.
- Added ability to upload custom remotes or install included custom remotes, including the legacy web server remote and a remote styled after a TV remote.
- List of files can be sorted.
- Files are organized in groups and groups can be collapsed.
- Create new folders from the web page.
- Added setting page to webserver to allow web server settings to be adjusted from the web server.
- Added file icon to web server. Clicking on a thumbnail will load the text image, if it is available.
Memory Remote
- The individual steps recorded for the Memory remote are displayed in a list. These steps can be removed or rearranged. Using this list, playback can be started from any recorded step. It is also possible to insert or overwrite steps.
- Memory Remote playback controls have been added that can be used in controllers and all other remotes. Controls include Memory Remote Play/Pause, Record, Stop, Increase and Decrease Speed.
- Added ability to adjust the Memory Remote Playback speed.
- Added ability to loop the Memory Remote playback.
- Added scrub slider and step buttons to navigate the steps.
- Added playback speed slidet to adjust the rate of playback.
- Added Minimum Value Change option to filter out steps that have a value less than a specific threshold.
MIDI Remote
- Connection to MIDI devices can now be done from within the MIDI settings. This does not include devices that require connection using the manufacturer’s software, such as the iRig BlueBoard.
- Prompter controls can be assigned to program changes, control changes, note changes or pitch bend.
- Prompter controls that require values, such as scroll location, speed, markers, files, text presets and speed preset can use values received from MIDI devices, or custom values.
- Added MIDI Presets to store any number of MIDI configurations.
- Added ability to view the MIDI configuration as a list, or as a virtual keyboard.
- Added ability to use double-presses, allowing two of the same MIDI messages in succession to control a different prompter control than a single press.
- Added ability to see the MIDI sources and destinations.
- Added the ability to Send, Receive or Send/Receive MIDI messages.
- Added ability to select C3 or C4 as middle C.
- Added ability to create a printable list of all configured MIDI controls.
- Added ability to create printable labels for all configured MIDI controls that include the prompter control icon and/or the control name.
- Added ability to adjust the settings of multiple controls at a time.
- Added MIDI Typing, allowing the keyboard to be used as for MIDI input.
- Added MIDI log to see history of MIDI activity.
- Added ability to record MIDI input, edit notes, control changes and program changes. Sequences can be played back to control the prompter.
- Added ability to act as a bluetooth MIDI peripheral.
Game Controller
- Added ability to view game controller layout as a list.
- Added ability to use double-presses on game controller buttons to control different prompter controls than single presses.
- Added ability to export a labeled graphic that can be printed or used as a reference.
- Added ability to export a textual list of the configured controls for reference.
- Added Game Controller Presets to store any number of game controller layouts.
- When opening the Game Controller remote feature, the list of available controllers is not displayed first.
AirTurn
- Added double-press feature allowing different prompter controls to be assigned than single presses.
- Added graphics for more AirTurn remotes.
- AirTurn settings graphics work like Game Controller graphics.
- Added AirTurn Presets so any number of layouts can be saved and recalled.
- Added My AirTurns to select AirTurn devices that are used with the app, so navigating devices will only show used devices.
Touch Tone Remote
- Added Touch Tone Remote Presets to store any number of remote layouts.
- Added double-press option to allow different controls to be assigned for single presses and double presses.
- Only key combinations that are configured are displayed in the list of touch tone controls.
Audio Remote
- Added double-press option to allow different controls to be assigned for single presses and double presses.
- Added Audio Remote Presets to store any number of remote layouts.
- Added option to accommodate remotes that use absolute volume signals.
Motion Remote
- New remote feature that can control prompter features based on the motion of the device.
- Gravity, Acceleration and Rotation can be used for control.
- A typical use case would be tilting the device back/forth or left/right to control scroll or speed.
- Added Motion Presets to store any number of remote configurations.
Monitor
- Added screen details to the top of the settings.
- Added an explanation for each setting.
- Video feed can be displayed on the external monitor.
- Overlay image can be displayed on external monitor.
Recording
- Added ability to record audio files or video files.
- Added ability to take still images while using the video feature.
- Video preview can be shown while not recording.
- Added torch feature to turn on the device's light, if present.
- Added ability to change the video exposure.
- Added ability for a touch on the preview to focus at the point of the touch.
- Added ability to zoom the video feed.
- Video preview can optionally show record button, still image button, camera button, fullscreen button, audio meter and time.
- Preview can be displayed as a floating window, fixed to one side the text, or within the settings. It can also be used as a control in the Controller feature and the horizontal and vertical controller bars.
- Preview can optionally be displayed on an external monitor with the text.
- Added Video Overlay feature to display graphic overlays on top of the video feed. Overlays can be added to existing videos and images. Any number of overlays can be created with any number of layers.
- Added Video Viewer to playback videos, images or audio files from within the app. The Video Viewercan be displayed as floating window, or fixed to one side of the text. Video control are available for remotes and controllers.
Music
- The music feature was added, which provides a way to create music playlists and control music playback.
- Music track markers can be added to tracks to allow navigating to specific times in a track.
- Music markers can also be used to adjust the scroll position.
- The total scroll duration of the text can be adjusted to the track length.
- Music can be controlled from within the settings, via a floating player, any controller or any remote.
- Music playlists allow any number of playlists to be configured.
- Music prompter controls include Play/Pause, Play, Pause, Forward, Rewind, Volume +, Volume -, Next Track, Previous Track, Next Marker, Previous Marker and Add Marker.
- Select music from the library or a file.
Support
- Added ability to attach files, settings, or screenshots to support emails.
- Added Store feature containing teleprompter remotes and products from a variety of companies.
- Added feature to search all help files for a specific term.
- Display the help fullscreen, in the settings, or over the promtper content to allow access to the settings pane while the support feature is still available.
