CSV files (comma separated values) can be imported to create an inventory with counters. CSV files can be exported from most spreadsheet applications, including Numbers on macOS and iOS.

When a CSV file is imported, the columns must be matched to the counter's name, description, increment, and count. This information could be in any order in the file.

When a file is imported, additional data present in the file is preserved. If a file is exported again, the updated information will be inserted into the original file content. This information can be removed from the Inventory Settings.

The document browser is a system feature that provides access to files across a variety of file sharing platforms.

  2. Press the Edit button to enter edit mode.
  3. Press the Import Inventory button.
  4. Use the browser to import CSV files from OneDrive, iCloud Drive, Google Drive, Dropbox, or others. The available locations may vary depending on available apps and accounts.
  5. The selected file will be downloaded and the available columns will be displayed to allow matching the proper data to the correct counter property.
  6. Follow the steps in Matching Columns to Counter Properties to finish importing the file.
Importing from Another App

Many apps are able to export files. If an app is able to export and share a CSV file, All Counter will be recognized as a candidate to open the file.

Matching Columns to Counter Properties

Regardless of how a CSV file is imported, All Counter needs to know which column in the file stores the data for the counter names, details, increments (deltas) and counts.

The property that is currently being assigned is displayed at the top of the screen. The first row of the file is displayed in the list. Each item representing a column in the file.

If the file contains a header row, the headers will be displayed in the list, otherwise the first row of data will be displayed.

  1. Match any counter properties that are available in the file.
  2. Use the Next and Previous buttons to navigate between counter properties.
  3. If a header row is included in the file, enable the Includes Header Row switch. This will prevent a counter being created for the header row.
  4. When a column has been designated for a property, the property will appear green, otherwise it will appear red. The property that has been assigned to a column will appear on the right side of the list.
  5. When columns have been assigned, press the Done button to finish. The inventory will be available in the Inventory List.
